The Folk Puppet Pageant is an arts curriculum custom designed for any age group. Its goal is to open windows to the imagination through an emergent, child-centered interdisciplinary arts project celebrating folk stories based on participants' cultural heritage.

Students will have an opportunity to:

  • manipulate and learn about puppet styles and techniques from all over the world
  • work as a team on a creative project over time
  • enhance their understanding of world folk culture/traditional storytelling
  • develop visual skills, painting techniques and work on unusually large canvases
  • be introduced to non-verbal theatrical techniques
  • learn to manipulate giant puppets and coordinate them with song with movement.
  • participate in a unique, outdoor, theatrical presentation

Jennifer offers one to two week residency programs to schools and organizations and Teacher Training workshops. She is currently an Artist-in-Residence at The Jubilee Center in Hoboken, NJ and presenting Teacher Trainings in Puppetry and Family Story at Montclair State University and at the 2007 NJEA Convention in Atlantic City.

"I believe giant puppet making has the ability to unleash creativity, build confidence, and promote social change. I seek to find what students are passionate about, who they as a community and help them speak their truth through the artistic process. For younger children, this often involves animals/the natural world and for older children, this can take the form of a cultural story or community issue.

The journey is always amazing. I would be delighted to take your students and your organization on a new one with me!"
